Latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that 176,820 cars were registered in April – up 8.2% on April 2013.
Of these registrations, fleet and business sales made up the majority, accounting for 52.5% of all new car registrations.
The UK new car market has now experienced growth for 26 consecutive months. For the year to date, UK motorists have registered 864,942 new cars – an increase of 12.5% on 2013. Of these, 433,096 have been fleet and business registrations, compared to 431,846 private sales.
The figures have caused SMMT to revise its annual forecast up from 2.3 million to over 2.4 million registrations. This represents an increase of more than 6% compared to last year.
